PETER ACKROYD a new fleet bridge
The Fleet River is one of London's 'lost rivers'.
Originally running above ground from its source on Hamstead Heath to Blackfriers where it joins the Thames, it represented the western boundary of London and was a primary force in shaping the topography and socio-political shape of the city. Buried under the street of the modern metropolis today,
the water course continues to exercise its influence, both benign and malign, unseen and forgotten.
This is a proposal for a new kind of London monument. One that celebrates a creative, urban power, rather than a tangible time, person or event.
The entire project is outlined in the PDF document here.
